Backbends!
A Yoga Workshop by Richii Jai
1.5 hours, All levels, Vinyasa Style
This workshop is a structural, alignment focused, anatomical education of postures that lead to big luscious, spirit centered backbends. I am offering the sum of my knowledge and experience, leading a progressive, gentle, yet tapas and strength building Sun Salutations A, B, C, D variations and structured core strengthening. One hour later, we are exploring hips and shoulders, preparing us for the Backbend Party!
I have counted the backbends, from Sun A, through to the final heart opener in the Backbend Party, the average student will surpass 44!
I speak of grounding, engaging, and exploring, as some of this information is new to students, and some is important review for current yoga teachers. The first hour is movement, and direct information, with only a few pauses for “break-down of postures” with demonstrations. The last 30 minutes I change the language to include information about the anahata chakra, aiding the flow of kundalini energy through the heart, throat, 6th, and 7th chakras. Also using this time to advise the yogi to remain open in the following days, as this practice can be life changing.
Our cool down before savasana is quiet, allowing the yogi to feel deeply this experience and navigate through their subtle bodies. Savasana is silent. When we sit again to seal our asana practice, we chant. I highly recommend this workshop for teachers, new and seasoned.
Flowing Strength
2 Hrs /Lev.2-3
We flow and have mini workshops to breakdown advanced postures and then integrate them into a dynamic vinyasa, this class displays how and when to “Up Level” your practice during a basic Level 2-3 class w/o distracting fellow students. Very fun!
HipHop Yoga
2 Hrs /Lev.1-3
Discover the yoga roots of break dancing and other dynamic movement forms. We flow and then breakdown several arm balances, backbends, and tricky maneuvers, then spin them together, music gets louder, the boys go nuts/girls go nuts, very fun.
Invert! Bandha Secrets
2 Hrs /Lev.3
This advanced class is for the sincere practitioner. Headstands, Handstands, Arm Balances, Variations rarely seen, concentrating on transitions from difficult posture to difficult posture. Discussions and practice of activating major and minor bandhas (muscle locks) in the body. Meditations for clarity of intentions and concentration. Ancient secrets found!
Detox Flow
1.5 Hrs /Lev.1-2
A hot, humid, sweaty class built of twists, sustained static postures, pranayama, and chants. A brief discussion about cellular toxicity, nutrition and immune boosting. Detox isn’t pretty! Let’s stay healthy!
Solid Base! (Alignment Intensive)
2 hrs/Lev 1-2
Back to basics, starting from the ground up! Hatha and pranayma, then vinyasa flow. Slow and low, teaching foundation for comprehension. Looking at how hands and feet are place optimally for differing body types. Practicing principals of structural alignment, joint stacking, bandhas, and local muscle engagements. Encouraging sweet harmony of Mind, Body, and Spirit!
Bhakti Shakti, Kirtan!
2 hrs
Pure and simple. Singing simple mantras and sacred poems to The Divine. Brief discussion of history and technique, then singing to our heart’s content. Song sheets included, instruments encouraged but not provided. No experience necessary!
